What is protein diathesis?

Especially among young mothers, there is a belief that protein diathesis is only an allergy to milk. It turns out that nothing is more wrong! Protein contamination is not only the hypersensitivity of the body to milk protein, but also allergy to other nutrients, together forming the symptoms of atopic dermatitis - the disease not only of babies, but also adults and older children.

What is protein diathesis?

Protein contamination is a hypersensitivity of the body to certain nutrients, manifested by changes in the disease on the surface of the body, generally called atopic dermatitis. In addition, the protein defect may predispose to the formation of various infections, for example: bladder or ear infection.

Unfortunately, so far, it has not been possible to clearly determine what is the reason for the disease. It is assumed that genetic conditions may affect the incidence of protein defects. Interestingly, the disease affects not only small children, the diet of which are gradually introduced new foods, but also adults.

What are the most common symptoms of a protein defect?

Protein contusion usually leads to atopic dermatitis, characterized by flaky, red, dry skin, prone to irritation and pruritus. Skin changes appear in various areas of the body. In toddlers - most often appear on the cheeks. In older children, skin lesions are also located on the neck, trunk, arms and legs.

What should the diet of a toddler suffering from a protein flaw look like?

In the interests of the health and condition of the child's skin, it is worth focusing on the toddler's diet, paying special attention to the introduction of new foods. New products should be included in the child's diet gradually, in a small amount, preferably one at a time, observing whether there are any characteristic changes on the child's body.

If there are no skin symptoms - the new product can be given to the child in greater quantity; you can also enter the next one, adapted to his age.

However, in the case of an allergic reaction, the sensitizing product should be immediately excluded from the diet of the toddler, and another, new - can be introduced only after healing of skin lesions.

Which products are the strongest allergens?

Food allergy is an individual problem for every child. However, there is a group of products that are very strong allergens and can be sensitized. In children with food blemish, foods such as cow's milk, eggs, fish, crustaceans, wheat, strawberries, nuts, peanuts, almonds and pistachios should be avoided. It is also worth to be careful when introducing a small allergy into the diet: red meat, honey or tomatoes.

How to care for atopic skin?

It is extremely difficult to treat atopic dermatitis, especially in young children, as it is very common for a dry, skin-free lipid barrier to show signs of intense itching. It is difficult for Maluch to explain that he does not scratch skin lesions, as irritation and scrambled wounds can lead to infection. Untreated skin infection gives a feeling of pruritus, causing the vicious circle to close. Therefore, for the treatment of atopic dermatitis, topical steroids or antibiotics are used to treat infections.

The care of atopic skin is also extremely important. It is recommended to reach only for cosmetics intended for the skin with this type of problem. In the pharmacy there is a large selection of products for cleansing and caring for atopic skin, also for use in the youngest, for example:

Ø  Balneum Baby Basic, soothing bath oil,

Ø  Atopin, baby and infant bath foam,

Ø  Oilatum soft, Shampoo,

Ø  Atoperal Baby, Cream.

When is it worth to consult a doctor?

The child's meals should be composed in such a way that they contain all the necessary nutrients in an appropriate amount, excluding sensitizing products. It happens that in a toddler who is allergic to numerous nutrients, preparing a balanced meal, it turns out to be quite a challenge for parents. Then it may be useful to visit a dietician who will arrange a diet adapted to the health of a toddler. Sometimes it also helps to supplement with vitamins and minerals that are necessary for proper development of the child, and which are often lacking in the allergy diet.

Protein contusion is a challenge for parents who, wanting to ensure the healthy development of their toddler, often spend long hours on composing meals, adapted to the child's health. It is extremely important to avoid allergic reactions by eliminating sensitizing foods to prevent unpleasant irritation of the child's sensitive skin. It happens that the protein diathesis with age becomes less severe and includes less and less food products, making it easier to compose the toddler's meals.
