Developmental defects of the pinna
Malformation of the pinna and ear
canal deforms these elements to various degrees and impair the function of the
outer ear.
The earlobe may be distorted or it
may be missing at all.
The external auditory canal may be
more or less narrowed or completely overgrown. These defects are often
associated with developmental disorders of the middle ear.
Treatment of these defects is
possible only surgically, and the indications for surgery are set individually,
taking into account primarily the child's hearing status.
The determination of any changes in
the ear in the newborn requires an otolaryngological evaluation.
